AAE junior Michael Reinhold is spending his summer on co-op with ATA Engineering in San Diego, CA.

Name:Michael Reinhold

Birthplace: Cincinnati, Ohio

AAE Major/Minor Concentration: Aerodynamics/Structures

Student Classification (Junior, Senior, etc.): Junior

Name and location of company/organization where you are on co-op:
ATA Engineering in San Diego, California

What are your job duties?
My role as an intern is to help in performing finite element analysis for the various customers of ATA, and then providing the gathered data in an appropriate manner in order to suggest potential next steps for the project/customer. I will also occasionally work in the shop, if a project requires it. Because of ATA's role as a consulting firm, I am always changing projects, and my role will shift around, meaning that I am never bored of my work.

Why did you want to do this co-op?
I wanted to gain experience that would help me to enter the workforce after college. I also feel like being on a co-op lets me enhance what I have learned at school, and build onto what my classes are teaching me.

What do you hope to gain from the experience?
I hope to learn from the project work I am doing, in order to supplement my college education. I also hope to find areas in the aerospace industry that particularly interest me, so that when I search for future jobs I have some idea of what I'm interested in.

What are your ultimate career goals?
I hope to one day be on a team performing aerodynamic analysis for launch vehicles, in order to help promote the future of privatized space travel.
