Professional Practice Programs
Work-integrated learning experiences give our students an advantage in career readiness with course work and hands-on learning/training during their time at Purdue.
The Office of Professional Practice (OPP) offers various programs to engage in the following:
Professional Development
Courses like ENGR 103: Intro to Professional Practice, various workshops and trainings throughout the academic year including resume review, cover letter building, interviewing, etc. and collaboration with campus partners such as the Center for Career Opportunities (CCO).
Technical Development
Milestones technical courses offered to provide students a hands-on learning experience in topics such as Programming with Arduino, CAD/3D Printing, Designing a Smartwatch & more.
Professional Experience
Participation in career fairs to earn co-op positions with over 400+ employers for alternating semesters of being in the classroom and gaining full-time work experience, along with Internship and research formats in programs like Interns for Indiana.
Global Experience
GEARE, the Global Engineering Alliance for Research and education offers students an international work experience. There are 550+ alumni working across the globe.
Global Professional Skills
Participation in Global Design Projects where they are tasked to work on a solution to specific Engineering issues with students from universities around the world. Students can also participate in academic coursework that includes the Intercultural Development Inventory, a global competency assessment. Students will learn that self-reflection, knowing more about others and building strategies for bridging cultural gaps will aid to success in the workplace.
