Why did you want to study abroad? Why did you choose the UC3M program?

I knew I wanted to study abroad because I wanted to experience another culture for an extended period of time, while also getting to see new places and try new things! I chose the UC3M program because being in Spain gives me a chance to develop my Spanish skills and I'd heard great things about Madrid as a city.

Best experience so far:

My best experience so far would have to be going to my host-brother's 19th birthday party. Not only was it a ton of fun, it gave me the perfect opportunity to interact with a lot of locals from Madrid my age.

What you’ve learned—either about yourself or the culture you’re living in.

I still have a lot to learn here, but so far the biggest takeaway is that empathy is key when it comes to interacting successfully with other cultures.

Would you suggest study abroad for other AAE students? Why?

I would absolutely suggest study abroad for AAE (and all) students! It is a fun and valuable experience, and it's possible to make it work smoothly with course planning and internships if you plan ahead a little.
