AAE Prof. Wayne Chen has been awarded an Honorary Doctorate in Technology by Tampere University of Technology (TUT) in Finland. The title of Honorary Doctor is the highest recognition that a university can award. The conferment ceremony took place on May 20, 2017. New doctors received a doctoral hat as a symbol of academic freedom and a written conferment certificate. 

TUT invited ten individuals from Finland and abroad to accept honorary doctorates in recognition of excellence in fields represented at the University and other exceptional scientific, artistic or social merits. Prof. Chen was awarded an honorary doctorate “in  recognition of significant contributions to the research of the behaviour of high deformation rates in materials as well as long-standing collaboration in research and technological development in the field of materials science."
