Chemical Engineering researchers receive NSF funding to investigate potassium ion battery safety

A team of Purdue Chemical Engineering researchers has been awarded funding from the National Science Foundation (NSF) to evaluate and improve the safety-related characteristics of potassium-ion batteries (KIBs). Dr. Vilas Pol, associate professor of Chemical Engineering, and Dr. Arvind Varma, the R. Games Slayter Distinguished Professor of Chemical Engineering, will receive $346,000/3y starting in June 2018 for their proposal, “Mechanistic Elucidation of Thermal Runaway in Potassium-Ion Batteries.”

ChE's Dr. Ramkrishna gives keynote address at 6th International Conference on Population Balance Modelling

Dr. Doraiswami Ramkrishna, the Harry Creighton Peffer Distinguished Professor of Chemical Engineering, delivered the first keynote address at the 6th International Conference on Population Balance Modelling (PBM 2018) on May 7 in Ghent, Belgium. His presentation, "Population Balance Modeling, Opportunities in Biological Sciences," explored biological phenomena that need the application of the population balance perspective, particularly signaling processes which represent the underpinning of quorum sensing, differentiation into various cell types, and other areas of potential application.

ChE Professor Stephen Beaudoin named Purdue Teaching Academy Fellow

Davidson School of Chemical Engineering Professor Stephen Beaudoin is one of 12 inductees announced by the Purdue University Teaching Academy. Teaching Academy Fellows are selected in recognition of their outstanding and scholarly teaching in graduate, undergraduate, or engagement programs. Candidates were identified by their individual department or college/school based upon evidence of excellence in teaching, innovation in teaching methodology, teaching-related service, and scholarship in teaching and learning. Further details on the fall induction ceremony will be announced later.
