Dr. Heinz Appointed as Head of the Department of Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences (SLHS) (Effective July 1, 2025)
We’re excited to share that Dr. Michael Heinz, PI of the Heinz Lab, associate head for research, and professor in the Departments of Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences (SLHS) and Biomedical Engineering (BME), has been appointed interim head of the department, effective July 1, 2025.
Dr. Heinz is widely recognized for his work linking auditory physiology and computational modeling to auditory perception, especially the effects of sensorineural hearing loss. He currently co-directs the NIH-funded T32 Interdisciplinary Training Program in Auditory Neuroscience and has received numerous honors, including the HHS Career Research Achievement Award and election as a Fellow of the Acoustical Society of America.
The Heinz Lab will continue its research in auditory science with strong support from lab members and collaborators during this transition. We look forward to continuing our mission under Dr. Heinz’s leadership in both the lab and department.
Please join us in congratulating him on this new role!
