Lunabotics

Lbot: The team will design, build, test and prepare an autonomous robot for a lunar mining competition sponsored by NASA.

Advisor:

Description:

Purdue Lunabotics designs and builds an autonomous lunar mining and construction robot for NASA’s Lunabotics Challenge. In competition, the robot must autonomously navigate simulated lunar terrain, avoid obstacles, manage dust from excavation, and collect and deposit regolith to construct a berm within a set time limit.

Students in the Vertically Integrated Projects (VIP) team can choose between two paths: conducting research to advance future team capabilities or participating in the student organization by attending a percentage of general meetings. Research opportunities span multiple engineering disciplines and experience levels, with projects such as wheel optimization, excavation system development, programmable control board design, and autonomous obstacle detection.

Relevant Technologies:

  • Robotics
  • Autonomous systems
  • Design
  • Manufacturing

Prerequisites:

None, all experience levels and majors are welcome!
