Biography
Joe Tort serves as Director of the Office of Professional Practice within Purdue’s College of Engineering. He manages a large portfolio of work-integrated experiential learning programs serving engineering students as well as students from eight other Purdue Colleges. He has more than 20 years' experience administering experiential learning programs with a track-record of success. This includes 12 years at the Office of Professional Practice where he has served as Assistant Director Global Professional Practice, Associate Director Professional Practice and Managing Director, Office of Professional Practice. In this time, he has aided in the growth and development of several professional practice programs including co-op, GEARE, Interns for Indiana, Milestones, industry talent certificate programs and professional skills training courses. He is the recipient of the Purdue College of Engineering Long-Term Impact Award, College of Engineering Team Award, Michael A. Brzezinski Intercultural Learning Champion Award and Purdue University Outstanding Leadership in Globalization Award. Tort is a two-time Leah H. Jamieson Leadership Award finalist and was one of seven inaugural Experiential Learning Champions for Purdue University. He is Co-PI on an NSF funded grant exploring the impact of global experience in college on the engineering career path. He has collaborated on publications related to global professional skills development and regularly presents at national and international conferences on topics related to experiential learning, career development, and intercultural development.
