James Atkinson
Biography
James is a senior in aeronautics and astronautics engineering, specializing in propulsion. He has completed two internships at Rolls Royce LibertyWorks and a co-op experience at Northrop Grumman.
In his first-rotation at Rolls Royce LibertyWorks, James was an engineering intern with the research and technology division, where he worked as a component design engineer tasked with containing a turbine disk failure.
He then completed a co-op at Northrop Grumman as a mechanical engineering co-op working with the parts, materials, and processes group. During his time there, he designed tests, test plans, worked with suppliers and customers, and gained valuable industry experience.
In his second-rotation at LibertyWorks, James worked with the advanced development division as a systems design and integration engineer. Highlights of his role included, learning new tools, assisting in interface definitions, designing test parts, and collaborating with the performance team.
James will soon be starting the 4+1 combined master's program with the Purdue AAE department for propulsion.
Outside of school, he enjoys working on cars, playing sports, and spending time with friends.
