Education

Frederick “Rick” Bried was raised in Indianapolis, Indiana and attended Broad Ripple High School. After graduation, he went on to Purdue University to study electrical engineering. During his time as a student, Bried joined the cooperative education program and the earnings he received as a co-op student allowed him to pay for his schooling. He received his bachelor’s degree in 1968.

Professional Career

After Purdue, Bried returned to his co-op company, Shell Oil Company, in Indianapolis and spent six and a half years engineering, building, and operating Midwest pipeline. In 1975, he transferred to New Orleans and spent more than three years in a similar capacity covering offshore Louisiana, East Texas, Mississippi, Tennessee, and Kentucky. In 1978, Bried moved to Houston, Texas and spent 10 years on electrical design and construction of pipeline projects throughout the United States. He spent the next 15 years supporting the head office pipeline engineering project group and field operating engineers as an electrical technical specialist. After more than 30 years of service, Bried retired from Shell Pipeline Co. LP in 2003. After his retirement, he then spent six months working for Sakhalin Energy Investment Co. in Russia.

Co-op Alumnus

Bried was a co-op with Shell Oil Company Products Pipeline Division in Indianapolis, Indiana. He credits the co-op program for giving him real-life experiences as a student that turned into a lifelong career.
